Bing Improves AutoComplete Suggestions

On September 9, 2016, Bing announced improvements to its autocomplete technology for queries associated with academic papers and movies.

According to the announcement, Bing originally launched its new autocomplete features around academic paper queries earlier this year. Using technology designed by Microsoft’s Cognitive Services and Academic Search team, Bing’s new autocomplete suggestions for academic-related searches make it possible for users to, “…explore the relationships between papers, authors, topics and publications through a large object graph.”

Bing’s latest version of its desktop editor tool, Bing Ads Editor 11.2, supports custom copy development for native ads. Instead of creating one ad to be served in search and native ad placements, advertisers can now create ads specific to native placements on MSN.com in bulk using the tool.

“Native ads perform better when they explain benefits and entice users to read more about a product and service, as opposed to a typical call to action in a search ad,” says Bing Ads in the announcement.

Baidu Says China’s New Ad Restrictions Will Hurt Revenue Growth

China’s Baidu warned that restrictions on online advertising will hurt revenue growth for the next two to three quarters, delivering the latest dose of bad news about China’s largest internet search service.

The company forecast lower-than-expected sales of $2.7 billion to nearly $2.8 billion this quarter, hit by government limits on the amount of ads it can show users.

China’s Search Engine Baidu Struggles On Earnings

Baidu, China’s largest search engine with over 80% of market share in that country, has had it’s worse quarter in terms of profit since their IPO over 11 years ago.

In their Q2 2016 earnings report their net income dropped by 34% from the previous period. They still are very profitable, showing a net income of $363.2 million but that profit continues to drop quarter over quarter as the company sees more and more scrutiny over their search ad practices.
